ABSTRACT: The integration of divergent datasets collected for differing purposes using differing methods poses unique challenges in vegetation mapping. Complicating this matter for the Appalachian National Scenic Trail is the 11 degrees of latitude and 15 degrees of longitude as it traverses the ecology of the eastern United States from Georgia to Maine. We will review how data and imagery sets collected over a decade were integrated into a consistent dataset to produce a seamless, U.S. National Vegetation Classification vegetation map for the 3,525-kilometer long footpath.
