Chicago is known for world-class architecture and the Chicago Architecture Foundation (CAF) River Cruise is “one of the top ten tours in the U.S.” (TripAdvisor). CAF-certified volunteer tour guides will interpret more than 50 buildings along the Chicago River. You’ll find out how Chicago grew from a small settlement into one of the world’s largest cities in less than 100 years. On this tour, you will get the real story on Chicago architecture and its history. A full-service bar and snack bar are available onboard (at own expense).

We’ll depart The Palmer House Hotel for a short (0.8 mile) walk to the boat dock. Tour departs rain or shine, and the boat ride is 90 minutes long. Please plan attire accordingly (although note that the boat does have an indoor space with viewing windows and seating in case of inclement weather. After the boat ride you are free to explore the city and walk back to the hotel on your own, or follow your fearless leader back to the hotel.  This field trip is a great opportunity to network and chat with US-IALE colleagues while learning about Chicago architecture!
